Hong Kong, China and maintaining an personal approach on a commercial market

The panel discussion will focus on the changes in the Hong Kong film industry, the current situation of co-productions with China, how to make it in a competitive commercial industry and the importance of personal visions and ambitions. Participating in the discussion will be young directors and screenwriters Derek Kwok and Clement Cheng, the star composer, producer, director and actor Teddy Robin, whose career spans over four decades, and film critic, festival consultant and programmer, and executive director of The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, Roger Garcia.

Producers, film festivals and the nurturing of new talents in Asia

The master class will focus on discovering and advocating new talent on local and international markets, trends on the indie side of local productions and the role of film festivals in establishing up-and-coming filmmakers. Participating in the discussion will be producer Daniel Yu, who helped to develop projects in several Asian territories, and film critic, festival consultant and programmer, and executive director of The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, Roger Garcia.

Master Class Made in Hong Kong

Preceding the screening of Made in Hong Kong, line producer Daniel Yu will discuss the making of the first indie film of modern Hong Kong cinema, the reception at the time of its release and the current cult status of the film, which is now regarded as one of the cinematic milestones of Hong Kong.
